The Illinois football team has accepted an invitation to the Texas Bowl in Houston.
The Illini (6-6) will face Baylor at Houston’s Reliant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Houston Texans, on Wednesday, December 29 . The game will kickoff at 5 p.m. Central time and will be televised on ESPN and ESPN HD.
The Bears finished 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12 Conference, fourth place in the South Division. They began their season with non-conference victories over Sam Houston State, Buffalo and Rice, and a loss to No. 4 TCU, then started conference play by winning four of their first five games. But a 30-22 victory at Texas on October 30 was Baylor’s last win, as they lost their final three games to eventual Big 12 South co-champions Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma.
Baylor is led by sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin III, who finished the regular season with 3,195 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. He also was their second-best rusher with 591 yards and eight touchdowns. Senior Jay Finley led the Bears in rushing with 1,155 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Offensively, Baylor averaged 32.6 points per game, the 29th best scoring offense in the FBS Subdivision of Division I. But they also allowed 29.8 points per game, only 89th in FBS.
