The Wisconsin football team received letters of intent from 20 high school seniors Wednesday. They also picked up commitments from eight players who plan to walk-on. There were no surprises for Badger fans today, as all 20 of those that received scholarships had verbally committed to team previously. Here’s a list of commitments by position:
QB: 0 RB: 1 WR: 3 TE: 4 OL: 2
DL: 2 LB: 4 DB: 4 ST: 0
Bret Bielema told reporters the Badgers were looking to add two more players to the class. One of the two is likely to be Milton, WI, quarterback Nate Hammond. Another name that’s been associated with the Badgers is heralded West Palm Beach quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who Rivals.com has rated as the third best quarterback prospect.
So far the class contains three four-star prospects, 16 three-star prospects and one two-star prospect. One of those four-star recruits is running back Melvin Gordon, who switched his commitment to Wisconsin after attending the epic Ohio State game this season.
Bielema said he felt that he’ll have a lot of depth at most positions, but the young tight ends, defensive lineman and cornerbacks will have the best chance to see some early playing time.
Derek Watt, a three-star linebacker prospect, committed to the Badgers. He is the younger brother of J.J. Watt. Preferred walk-on Tyler Leonhard is the younger brother of former Badger standout and current NY Jets safety Jim Leonhard. Check out the entire class here.
