Toon speaks to reporter about Wilson visit, commits minor NCAA recruiting violation
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal’s Jeff Potrykus, Wisconsin wide receiver Nick Toon committed a minor NCAA violation when he spoke to a TV reporter about Russell Wilson’s visit to UW last Tuesday and Wednesday.
From the report:
According to NCAA rules, “member institutions” are not allowed to comment publicly on an unsigned recruit. UW officials have declined to comment on the recruitment of Wilson.
However, senior wide receiver Nick Toon on Friday was approached by a TV reporter during the WIAA state team tennis tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. All player interviews are expected to be cleared through UW’s athletic communications department but Toon, who was at the tournament to watch the younger brother of a close friend, politely said he would answer a few questions.
Toon’s misstep is not likely to produce any major consequences for UW and will not affect Wilson’s eligibility if he chooses to play for the Badgers.
