RB Stephfon Green Returns to Penn State After Training Camp Dismissal
According to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com, running back Stephfon Green has rejoined the Penn State Nittany Lions football team after having been dismissed from the team during training camp. Green’s return comes just ten days after coach Joe Paterno told the media that the redshirt senior has “had some problems with me,” and that “for the good of the football team it might be better if he backs away.”
Last season, Green played in every one of the Nittany Lions’ games, splitting time as one of Evan Royster’s primary backups along with Silas Redd. Green rushed for 188 yards on 48 carries last year, recording one touchdown.
He had rushed for 578 yards and 5 touchdowns on just over 100 carries in his freshman year, but has seen a major drop in production in the past two seasons.
Green, along with Redd and junior Brandon Beachum, will carry a significant load on offense with the school’s all-time leading rusher in Royster now playing with the Washington Redskins of the NFL.
The trio will have a week to prepare for the team’s season-opening game against Indiana State.
