Derby Receives 2 Game Suspension

Iowa backup quarterback A.J. Derby found out Monday morning that his action last Friday earned him a 2 game suspension. Kirk Ferentz said on Monday morning that Derby’s suspension comes “as a result of poor decisions this past weekend. Redshirt junior John Wienke will backup starter James Vandenberg for Iowa’s games versus Penn State and Northwestern.

Derby was arrested for reportedly punching out a window near a bar on the far east side of Iowa City late Friday night. Iowa had a bye on Saturday, so no team events were planned for the weekend. Take a look at A.J. Derby’s mugshot, courtesy of BlackHeartsGoldPants.com. If I had to guess, the broken window on the bus may not have been the only thing that was punched that night.

Cops responded to the call and arrested Derby. He was released on bail shortly thereafter. It is unlikely that Derby will make the trip with the team this weekend when Iowa travels to Happy Valley to play Penn State.
