#1 Sack Leader: Whitney Mercilus, Illinois

A bright light on the Illinois Fighting Illini team this season has been the play of defensive end Whitney Mercilus. Whitney Mercilus was a 3 star high school recruit that came to the Illini from Garfield High School in Akron, Ohio. One of his best attributes as a defensive lineman is his speed. Before coming to the Illini he was posting a 4.6 second 40 yard dash time. That’s an incredible speed for any sort of lineman whether they’d be on offense or defense.
