Champaign, Illinois- Illinois’ basketball team started the season off righ this past Friday. They started the season by defeating the Loyola (IL) Ramblers by a score of 67-49.
The game was a little closer than what the average Illinois fan would’ve liked, but a win is a win. At halftime, the game posted low-scoring numbers. Both teams went to the locker room with Illinois up 28-18 over Loyola (IL). Illinois’ largest lead of the game was by 18 points and they were able to stay in the lead the entire game.
With under 12 minutes left to play in the game, Loyola (IL) would bring the game close with a score of 38-34.
Illinois’ Brandon Paul would sink a 3-pointer with a little over 9 minutes left, to give the Illini some room to work. The score became 48-38 and the Illini would seal the victory from there.
Sophomore center Meyers Leonard scored 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and had 6 blocks. He even scored his first career 3-pointer during the first half. Junior guard Brandon Paul scored 14 of the Illinois points.
