Preview: Illinois vs. #15 Wisconsin

By dustincraigo

The Wisconsin Badgers will be coming to town this coming Saturday. Illinois will welcome Wisconsin for another Big Ten contest. Wisconsin is ranked #15 in the Associated Press Poll and #13 in the Coaches Poll. Wisconsin has a current record of 8-2 (4-2 in Big Ten) and are currently in second place in the Big Ten- Leaders Division. As of now, most people would bet that we’ll be seeing Wisconsin versus Michigan State in the Big Ten Championship.

Wisconsin is a balanced, dominate squad. They are 4th in the nation in points scored per game (46.5 points) and also ranked 6th for points scored against them per game (15.8). They have a deadly passing game led by Senior quarterback Russel Wilson, a transfer this year from North Carolina State. Wisconsin averages 248.9 passing yards per game. Their rushing attack is just as lethal. They average 250.1 yards rushing per game (10th in the nation). Russel Wilson is also on track to a 3,000 passing yard season. He has completed 160 out of 218 attempts. He’s acquired 2416 yards with 25 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. The run game has been led by junior running back Montee Ball. In 185 attempts, he’s amassed 1,242 yards with 23 touchdowns.

Their offense is deadly, it’s been proven that the only way to beat Wisconsin is to trade punches with them. Both Ohio State and Michigan State had to match every Wisconsin point to win. Both teams had to make deep throws in the closing seconds to claim victory over the Badgers. Every Badger win has been decided by an average of 39 points, so about 7 touchdowns (at least).

With all that said, this game doesn’t look like a good chance for our Illini. With all the mistakes, offensive struggles, etc., Illinois won’t have a chance of making this one close. Illinois offense is unable to score the amount of points it would take to go toe to toe with the Badgers.

This game is going to be another step in Wisconsin’s path to the Big Ten Championship. Ron Zook’s seat will heat up even more.

Prediction: Illinois 14, Wisconsin 49
