Keith Marshall, the top running back according to Scout.com and one of the best players in the entire country, will make his college selection on Dec. 6. Marshall will be deciding between Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame, Clemson and South Carolina, a school that he is visiting over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Marshall is making his decision more than two months before National Signing Day because he is scheduled to enroll at whatever school he decides on in January for the spring semester. The youngster would then be able to practice with his new team and play in their spring game.
Most agree that Georgia is the slight favorite in the race for Marshall’s services, but there are rumors floating around on the web that Mark Richt might step down as the Bulldogs head coach. Those rumors have yet to be confirmed by any credible sources, but if they are indeed true, Notre Dame would probably overtake the Bulldogs as the favorite.
The five-star product out of North Carolina would more than likely receive significant playing out of the Irish backfield right off the bat if he indeed picks ND as his school of choice. Cierre Wood would remain the starter, but Marshall is too talented to keep on the sidelines and would get his fair share of carries as the season wore on.
Hopefully these rumors about Richt are indeed true and the Irish can add Marshall to this already impressive 2012 recruiting class. If he picks a Notre Dame hat on in a couple of weeks, it isn’t out of the realm of possibilities for the Irish to shoot to the top of the recruiting rankings.
