Adrian Peterson Pledges $1 Million to University of Oklahoma Athletics

Minnesota Vikings All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson pledged a $1 million donation to his alma mater today, specifically earmarked for the University of Oklahoma‘s athletic department and to help with the construction of a new residential hall on campus.

Peterson’s donation will go toward the construction of Hedrington Hall, the school’s newest student housing facility,  on the Oklahoma campus in Norman, Oklahoma. A portion of the donation will also go to the creation of the Adrian Peterson Football Scholarship Endowment for incoming student-athletes.

Not surprisingly, Peterson’s donation is the largest ever made to the school by a former University of Oklahoma student-athlete.

When asked for his reasoning behind the donation, Peterson had the following to say:

This was something that I had been thinking about doing for a long time. I always hoped to be in a position to be able to donate back to the University of Oklahoma and make it an even better place; do whatever I could to help the university that did so much for me.

It was something that I always wanted to do and there just came a time when I got established and comfortable enough to make it happen. It was a no-brainer to do it and I am thankful that I’m in a position to give back to OU and to show my appreciation.

In general, Adrian Peterson seems like a really solid guy who appreciates the opportunity that Oklahoma gave a country kid from Palestine, Texas to work toward his goal of playing in the NFL.

There’s also little doubt argument to be had that Peterson is one of the best running backs the NFL has seen in quite some time– and barring the injuries that have hampered him in recent years, could have been even better than what we have already seen.

Kudos to Adrian Peterson for giving back to a place that gave him so much during his time on campus. It’s always nice to see that type of mutual respect, especially given how rare it is anymore.

Either way, both parties are better for it and plenty of people will benefit down the road from Mr. Peterson’s generosity.
