Stop me if I’m starting to sound like a broken record.
In an off-season which has already been filled with fights, injuries and arrests, yet another can be added to the list.
According to reports, Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore wide receiver DeAndrew White was hospitalized overnight following an early morning fight where shots were fired.
White is currently being held at DCH Memorial Hospital in Tuscaloosa following an overnight fight which was broken up by Tuscaloosa Police which included shots being fired. Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit chief Lloyd Baker noted that a 20 year-old man was injured during the fight, but would not release the name of this man nor disclose the nature of his injuries.
This man presumably is White.
Baker also noted in his report that a 31 year old man was found unconscious about a block away from where the incident allegedly occurred with serious head injuries. According to this report, the 31 year old man is no relation to White.
No charges have been filed as of the time of this report.
A Houston, Texas native, DeAndrew White caught 14 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns during the 2011 campaign for the Crimson Tide and is listed on the spring depth chart three deep behind star wideout Marquis Maze, who will return this year for his senior season.
It’s another distraction for Nick Saban to deal with in the off-season which was definitely not in the plans. While Alabama traditionally hasn’t seen the off-season issues which other programs of similar caliber have in recent years, with the level of success they have attained, problems typically seem to follow.
You have to figure Saban will nip this one in the bud, and in a harsh way, if White is involved, especially given he isn’t a significant contributor for the Tide.
Unfortunately for DeAndrew White, this is the type of situation where a lesser player is made example of to strike some fear into the bigger contributors.
Let’s hope this doesn’t become his fate.
