Good news this weekend for Nebraska basketball fans, as new head coach Tim Miles did something Doc Sadler never could. Miles nabbed former Omaha Central star Deverell Biggs from Seward County Community College, in which Biggs still has two years to play two at Nebraska.
This, however, may not even be the biggest pull for Miles in this recruiting class. Akoy Agua, a star also at Omaha Central High School, is attracting offers from the biggest colleges around the country. Though just a junior, he is good friends with Biggs, which could boast well for Miles.
Nebraska’s post presence has been non-existent under Sadler, and is starting out thin under Miles. Jorge Diaz is gone and it appears Christopher Niemann, after three knee surgeries, is expected to receive a medical hardship. That leaves the Huskers without a whole lot down low.
Though Agua will not be a huge post presence at just 6′ 9″ and 230 pounds, but he could be a solid four player for the Huskers. He can score, rebound, and block shots.
As I’ve detailed before, the Huskers have a lot of work to do. Miles, however, is proving he is right for this job and wasting zero time in going out and getting recruits. His staff is working fast and efficient to bring prospects to Lincoln.
Shavon Shields, the son of former Huskers lineman Will Shields, and Benny Parker are still both committed to the Huskers to play basketball, but both still could re-open their recruitment.
Miles is off to a great start as the Huskers coach. Let’s hope that he can keep it up, as Nebraska needs to get its basketball program heading in the right direction.
