Rose Bowl Remains On ESPN Through 2026

By Will Wilson

The Granddaddy of them all will remain on ESPN through the 2026 College Football season. The deal was announced Thursday by the Tournament of Roses, ESPN and the commissioners of the Big Ten and the Pac-12 conferences.

This is great for the Big Ten. The Rose Bowl is tradition and what college football is all about. Have you ever seen the Rose Bowl Stadium from afar? It puts chills up and down your body. You see a venue where so many greats have stepped between the lines and performed on the biggest stage, satisfying our every need as a fan.

The announcement was made two days after the agreement of a four-team playoff that will begin during the 2014 season. Can’t the playoff start this season? Ugh. Sorry, just getting warmed up before I start whining about the BCS for another two years.

The game will continue to be played on News Years day and will be the host of the semifinal game in 2015 and 2016 season during the four-team playoff rotation. The Rose Bowl will continue to host members of the Big Ten and Pac-12 conference unless it is part of the playoff rotation that year. Details on the playoff system have yet to be solidified.

ESPN and ABC have broadcasted the Rose Bowl since 1989 and will continue to do so for a long time. This is the way it is suppose to be. Tradition at its best in the game of college football.

Whether or not the Champion of the Big Ten makes it to the playoff beginning in 2014, they still have Pasadena. That means Brent Musburger and those beautiful words that come out of his mouth.

“You are looking LIVE.”

I’ll take that any day.
