College Football Recruiting: Pittsburgh Signs Kicker With Unfortunate Name
The Pittsburgh Panthers earned a commitment from a kicker this afternoon.
On most days, especially in the dog days of summer and college football recruiting, this would nary turn a head.
When the kicker’s name is Chris Blewitt, however, things are a little different.
I know, I know, the young man can’t help his last name, but I also can’t control the flood of puns that overtake my brain just reading his name written down on the page. I’ll spare you sharing them here.
By all accounts, Blewitt is one of the top kicking prospects in the country, and could make an impact for Paul Chryst‘s team as they try to claw their way back into competitiveness in the Big East this fall after a 6-7 finish in 2011 and earn bowl eligibility in 2012.
The Panthers current starting kicker and punter are both juniors, so if Blewitt can come in and prove himself early in practice this fall, the job could be his, and any forthcoming jokes about “blown” kicks will just have to wait.
Either way, though, you can count on the fact that jokes will be headed his way for four seasons.
Some guys just don’t luck out in that respect.
Hell, you can’t have it all.
