Isaiah Crowell didn’t waste any time finding a new home to take his talents to. Will his past follow him?
Crowell enrolled Wednesday at Alabama State, less than a week after being dismissed from the Georgia football team due to a pair of felony weapons charges. Although UGAsports.com reported Crowell transferring, ASU has yet to confirm it.
With ASU being a member of the FCS, Crowell will be eligible to play immediately starting this fall. If he were to transfer to another FBS school, he would have to sit out an entire season.
This seems to be the calm before the storm. If Crowell cannot keep his record straight while playing for a major Division I football school, how can he get it together at an FCS school with less supervision? While constantly in the spotlight at Georgia, he’ll be able to hide somewhat in the shadows at ASU.
Crowell is 19 and has showed he lacks the maturity to handle everything that has been given to him. Before signing with the Bulldogs in high school, Crowell had pictures posted on his Facebook page that showed him with his eyes glazed and a cup in his hand. What was in that cup was never discovered, but several comments under the picture expressed that college coaches would not like his behavior.
It will be interesting to see how Crowell responds at his new home at Alabama State. There is no doubt he has the talent to succeed, but can he stay out of trouble and become a man?
The odds are against him.
