Contrary to popular belief, the Idaho Vandals are not a football powerhouse, but over the next few years they may get paid as such. Fans in the SEC may become overly familiar with the Vandals in the near future, as they are scheduled to hit the road and strap it up versus an SEC opponent for the next four years. They currently have game contracts with LSU (in 2012), Ole Miss (in 2013), Florida (in 2014) and Auburn (in 2015).
Idaho will make the trip to Baton Rouge to play the defending SEC Champions on September 15. This should be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage for Les Miles and his bunch, as they’ll be playing their third straight non-conference game at home, before having to travel to “The Plains” of Auburn, Alabama on September 22.
If having to travel to Death Valley isn’t enough for the Vandals, the game versus LSU is a 7 p.m. kickoff which will just give the cajuns all day to get right, if you know what I mean, and be in a frenzy by kickoff. The best part of the trip for Idaho will be the $925,000 check they’ll cash courtesy of the LSU Athletic Department.
The game versus Ole Miss will net the Vandals’ $850,000, while Florida will throw them $975,000 in 2014. The Vandals will conclude their four year tour of the south with a game in Auburn, versus the Tigers in 2015, which will net them a cool $1 million.
The 2012 football season could possibly net the Idaho football program over $2 million dollars in game guarantees, that is after they shell out $150,000 each to Wyoming and Eastern Washington. Not too shabby for a program that only won two games in 2011.
