Tom Price is a diehard Penn State alum and he loves his school. He also hates the NCAA sanctions that the football team has to deal with and he is devastated. He is so upset that he compares the sanctions to 9-11. Not smart, Tom.
“I just can’t put my arms around it,” said Price. “It was our 9/11 today. I just saw planes crashing into towers.”
Let’s break this down. On one hand, you have a deadly terrorist attack that kills over 3000 people and sends a nation into mourning. On the other hand, you have some sanctions at a school that valued the reputation of a football coach over reporting a child molester. Yep, those are pretty much equal.
The sad thing is that Tom Price does not represent the PSU fanbase, but he is going to get the coverage. Comparing these sanctions to a terrorist attack is simply absurd. Even if it was a slip, the fact that those two things were in his head are just awful. It is insensitive at best and absolutely devastating at worst.
Penn State has to deal with the sanctions. They brought them on themselves. That is the what happens when you shield a child molester. That’s too bad, Tom. It’s not a terrorist attack. You will wake up tomorrow and the world will be just fine.
This might be the worst thing said in defense of Penn State. That is almost impossible to believe but Tom Price managed to make the people insulting the people who are abused look less insensitive.
