McHenry County Preseason Top 10

By Andy Schmidt

With the 2012 regular season now under two weeks away, here is my preseason top 10 for McHenry County High School football with last season’s records in parentheses…

 1. Marian Central (11-1) Chris Streveler has committed to the University of Minnesota and is probably the best QB in the county for a talented Hurricanes team

 2. Prairie Ridge (13-1) The defending Class 6A champions won’t have Jordan Getzelman, who is sitting out after deciding to play baseball at Missouri

3. Richmond-Burton (12-2) The Rockets lost in the Class 4A title game last season but will need to replace 19 starters

4. Crystal Lake South (10-2) It will be a young Gators team in 2012 but have an anchor in left tackle Boston Matthews, who is going to Toledo

5. Cary-Grove (8-3) Quinn Baker runs the show for the triple option in Cary, who have most of their starting backfield returning

6. Jacobs (7-3) Bill Mitz and company lose a lot of offensive production but Mitz has performed a complete 180 on the program since taking over

7. Woodstock North (7-3) The Thunder went to the playoffs for the first time in school history last season and will be looking to start a new tradition

8. Harvard (7-3) A 6-0 start looked promising in 2011 before stumbling in the team’s last few games including a first-round loss

9. Crystal Lake Central (6-4) The co-Fox Valley Conference Fox champs will need to find someone to replace Gage Harrah’s production

10. Alden-Hebron (4-5) The Giants had a down year in 2011 but in a normally competitive Northeast Athletic Conference, anything is possible
