Minnesota State Football Coach Arrested On Child Porn Charges

Disturbing news coming out of Minnesota today.

Todd Hoffner, the head football coach at Minnesota State, Mankato, is in custody on charges related to child pornography. He was booked into the Blue Earth County Jail on Tuesday afternoon according to CBS.

The Mankato Free Press reports that authorities went to Hoffner’s home on Tuesday in search of the head coach. They came to find out he was on the practice field.

After hearing these reports there is nothing much else to do but shake your head in disbelief. After the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, you may think this story isn’t as important as the one that happened at Penn State.

You would be dead wrong.

Yes, Minnesota State is a small Division II school that doesn’t receive any national recognition. But that isn’t a reason to believe this situation should be taken lightly. This is another incident in where a university may be employing a pedophile, undeniably endangering the well-being of their student athletes.

Extensive background checks still seem hairy. How are you suppose to monitor or investigate something like this? This is especially true if the individual has never had a history with something so sickening as child pornography.

Sandusky’s problems were known for years and the university and its officials were able to cover it up for so long and fool so many people. Hoffner apparently has kept his side job undercover, fooling his family, friends and players.

He was escorted off the football practice field Friday by officials.

This has got to stop.
