The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have suspended starting running back Cierre Wood for the first two games of the season for violating team rules. That means Brian Kelly will have to go with Theo Riddick and George Atkinson III as their running backs in Ireland as the Irish open up against Navy.
This really adds to the Irish’s problems as they’ll now start the year without their starting QB Tommy Rees.
I’m not sure what’s going on with the program, but really? How dumb can you be? You’re a senior and you decide to break team rules? Not a good move, Mr. Wood.
I do like the fact Brian Kelly is being stern with his program. Holding players to a higher standard has to happen, and Notre Dame has been faulted for not doing that in the past.
Knowing you start the year without your starting QB can’t be a good feeling. Losing your running back now too? Has to be worse.
The Irish are primed for a tough year already, so they can’t continue to afford losing their top skill players. Something has to happen with cleaning up the program so if it means continuing to suspend guys, so be it. Notre Dame is a long ways away from being the powerhouse they once were, and it’s time to come back to glory.
Only way to come back to glory? Keeping guys on the field that are following the rules at all times.
Let’s go Notre Dame. Clean it up.
