RB Berkley Edwards Looks To Get Team Back On Track Against Trojans

After a tough loss in week 1, the Chelsea Bulldogs are looking to bounce back this week as they will hit the road to play the East Lansing Trojans. East Lansing is coming off of a road win over the Haslett Vikings. Chelsea ran into a tough running game during their loss against the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans at home, but this week is going to be a much different challenge for the Bulldogs.

East Lansing has a very balanced attack. Against Haslett, they rushed for 145 yards and passed for 157. Chelsea does have an advantage in this game that it has already seen the Titans running game, which uses different backs to run the ball. What is a reason for concern was that they couldn’t stop them. The Trojans used 7 different ball carriers in their first game, with only one of them going over 10 carries. Christopher Jones lead the way for the Trojans with 50 yards on 9 carries.

Their passing attack wasn’t as spread out though. They only completed 6 passes, 5 of them going to Javon Haines who totaled 139 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. The Trojans are a running team, but they definitely use the run to step up the pass and they go for big plays.

As I have already alluded to, the Bulldog defense is going to need to get better this week. Lumen Christi gained 371 yards rushing against them. The Trojans will be looking for similar success.

Chelsea’s running back Berkley Edwards is going to need to put up similar numbers again this week if they are going to win. What I look for him and the Bulldog offense to do is grind out some drives, which will allow their defense to rest and put pressure on the Trojan defense. The Trojans did well by keeping Haslett out of the end zone until the 3rd, but the Vikings aren’t bringing in a back like Edwards.

Edwards kept his team in the game last week and will need a similar effort this week. They did come up short, losing by 7, but they went up against a perennial football power. Edwards rushed the ball 24 times for 125 yards. The Titans are known for having a solid defense, so the 5.2 yards per carry is pretty solid. He scored twice on the ground as well. He also added 4 catches for 48 yards and I think this could be an asset for Chelsea to score a victory this week.

These two teams met last year with East Lansing scoring the 20-7 victory. Edwards had a lot of yards in that game, but the only score was off of an interception returned for a touchdown. These two teams are different and with that I see a different outcome this year. My prediction for the game will be that Chelsea gets back to .500 with a 21-14 victory. I believe that Edwards will have about the same amount of yards as he did last year, but I think he will get in the end zone this time around.

This game will played at 7:00 pm August 30th, at East Lansing High School.
