College Football Recruiting: Marcellus Pippins Trims List Down To Three
While it doesn’t carry the same weight as when you trim it down to one, a list of three is better than nothing. It can be difficult trying to predict where guys will decide on going to school, and any time you can get a list narrowed down to just a few schools, it can clear things up tremendously.
Cornerback Marcellus Pippins is one such player who recently trimmed his list of schools down. Granted, he trimmed his list down to four in early July, and now in late August, were down to three, so it’s not exactly like the College Football Recruiting 2013 world is set on fire.
The El Cerrito California native, at 5’10’’ 175lbs, with a reported 4.4 second forty yard dash, has narrowed his choices down UCLA, Utah and Washington State. His original list of four included San Diego State, which has since been dropped. Utah has been rumored to be the leader, as Pippins has indicated how much their staff has been contacting him, as well as his own intrigue with going far away from home for school.
UCLA would be a logical destination for Pippins, considering how close it is to his home. Head Coach Jim Mora Jr. will make more than a few compelling arguments as to why he should stay close, probably even trying to pitch the idea of mom being able to do laundry. But the darkhorse, and who I think will eventually win out for Pippins services, is Washington State. Mike Leach is going to make a winner out there in Pullman Washington, and there are a lot of guys who are going to want to be in on the ground floor of such an operation.
Pippins is a solid cover corner, with good athleticism and above average ball skills. I think he is a little underrated, but he is still going to be looking for more offers as his senior season goes on. Also, don’t expect Pippins to make a decision in the very near future, he has indicated he wants to take all of his official visits before deciding.
