Illinois High School Football: Week 2 North Suburban Conference Game Capsules
A busy week in the North Suburban Conference with each team playing a non-conference game….
Warren (0-1) at New Trier (0-1): Warren couldn’t get past Maine South in a 28-14 loss. Davonte Wilcox had an 80-yard touchdown run for the Blue Devils. The Trevians had their own issues with Schaumburg’s Juwann Richard, allowing him to score twice on kickoff returns during a 27-14 loss.
Lake Forest (1-0) at Highland Park (0-1): Andrew Clifford threw for 231 yards to lead the Scouts to a 28-7 win over Buffalo Grove. The Giants got smashed 40-6 by Elk Grove but got a touchdown pass from Tommy Sutker to Grant Paley.
Lake Zurich (1-0) at Cary-Grove (1-0): The Bears took down Fremd 21-0 behind 241 rushing yards in Jake Stauner’s varsity debut. C-G got 189 yards rushing from Kyle Norberg and another 161 from Quinn Baker in a 47-33 win over St. Charles East.
Urban Prep (0-1) at Libertyville (1-0): Libertyville got a touchdown with a minute left to score a 24-20 win over Barrington in the coaching debut for Mike Jones. Urban Prep lost their season opener 55-6 at Oak Forest.
Stevenson (1-0) at Homewood-Flossmoor (1-0): The Patriots scored a 35-28 win over Lyons as sophomore Willie Bourban threw for almost 150 yards. Homewood-Flossmoor defeated Marian Catholic 35-7. Both of these teams lost in the state quarterfinals last season.
Prairie Ridge (1-0) at Mundelein (0-1): The Mustangs lost 23-22 on a last-second by Wheeling in Week 1. Freshmen Gavin Graves threw for over 170 yards in his debut. The Wolves began defense of their Class 6A title with a 35-28 win over Glenbard South with Kingsley Ebirim running for 158 yards.
Zion-Benton (0-1) at Evanston (1-0): The Wildkits shutout Lincoln Park 42-0 after Lincoln Park had to forfeit at halftime due to not having enough healthy while the Zee-Bees couldn’t squeak out their battle against Deerfield, losing 14-12.
Waukegan (0-1) at Antioch (1-0): It was a difficult task for the Sequoits in a 35-26 win over Lake Forest Academy as Antioch forced six turnovers. The Bulldogs lost at home 30-26 against North Chicago as Waukegan allowed a 26-12 lead to slip away.
Grayslake Central (1-0) at Grant (1-0): Central’s defense was outstanding, giving up just over 50 yards in a 14-0 win against Round Lake last week. The Bulldogs ran through Johnsburg literally, not using a single passing play in a 42-7 win.
Woodstock North (1-0) at Lakes (1-0): Ryan Wade ran for 124 of North’s 279 yards as the Thunder won on the road 34-10 against Elmwood Park. North is playing their second of third straight road games. Direll Clark led the Eagles with 140 yards rushing in a 34-21 win against Grayslake North.
North Chicago (1-0) at King (1-0): The Warhawks matched their 2011 win total with a 30-26 win at Waukegan. King defeated St. Joseph 42-13 at home to open their season. This game is Saturday at Chicago’s Gately Stadium.
Grayslake North (0-1) at Round Lake (0-1): AJ Fish did everything he could for North last week in their loss to Lakes with over 100 yards passing and rushing. The Panthers’ offense couldn’t get on track last week against Grayslake Central and will look for more success this week.
Vernon Hills (1-0) at St. Francis (1-0): The Cougars got 147 rushing yards from Dylan McNamara in a 38-22 win over Dunbar at home. St. Francis rolled past Riverside-Brookfield 57-12 before three first-half touchdowns by T.J. Jackson.
Wauconda (1-0) at Orr (0-1): David Starkey ran for over 160 yards as the Bulldogs defeated Woodstock 21-7. Mike Santucci added over 100 yards as Wauconda scored 21 straight points in the victory. Orr fell 56-8 at Thornton to open their season.
