It was a close two-horse race at the top of the pack–as expected–between the nation’s obvious two powers, Alabama and USC, with the rest falling in behind.

Florida State made a strong debut in our poll at No. 5, and the Clemson Tigers were also a surprise team, finishing in at No. 11.

Michigan fell to 20 after their slaughter at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide, and Notre Dame cracked the Top 25 after a 50-10 thrashing of the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday morning in Dublin.

It was an eventful Week 1 in college football to say the least.
