Riley Norman, Cadillac Look To Win Conference Opener Against Petoskey

After winning a thriller last week, the 2-0 Cadillac Vikings and their star tackle Riley Norman are looking to continue their success as they will open up conference play against the 2-0 (1-0) Petoskey Northmen. This will be quite the struggle for the Vikings as they will play against the Northmen who have dominated their first two opponents of the season.

Petoskey in their first game played against the Sault Area Blue Devils. The Northmen blanked them, winning 21-0 on the road. It should be noted here that Sault Area went on to blown out their next opponent.

The Northmen in their second game hosted conference opponent, the Ogemaw Heights Falcons and handled them 34-8.

The Vikings’ defense has played good this season, giving up 17 points a game, and will need to slow down the Northmen offense that is scoring 27.5 points per game. They have been able to cause turnovers though and that is something they will be looking to do more of. They also have given up a lot of those points late in the fourth, the first game when they were up big and the second when a comeback was being mounted. I think they need to tighten up a bit, but they definitely have played well enough thus far.

Offensively, they will be looking to get back to the running game they featured in their first game of the year when they rush for 196 yards. It was tough going last week when they went for 105, but they did throw for 191 yards even though many of those yards came on their two big touchdown passes.

It is good for them to know that they can do either with success to win games, but if they can put together a balanced offense in one game, this team could be scary. They will be looking for their tackles Norman and Jack Ford to continue to open up holes and protect the quarterback. If they do that, this team should be able to move the ball on the Northmen and crack their tough defense.

Last year, Petoskey dominated on the road at Cadillac 63-24. I think the game will be much closer this year. The Northmen are tough, but the Vikings have had success this year with the run and the pass, they just haven’t been able to put them together in the same game yet.

If they can do that this week, I think they will put themselves in a good chance to upset. Cadillac’s defense is going to need to tighten up, because if not they will see Petoskey scoring points and putting themselves in a hole. My prediction for this game is that the Petoskey will defeat Cadillac at home, but I don’t see it being a blow out like last year. I see the score being 35-28.

This game will be played at 7:00 p.m. on September 7 at Petoskey High School.
