Sand Creek Aggies Seeks First Win Against Conference Foe Whiteford

By David Garrett

The 0-2 Sand Creek Aggies wanted their season to start off differently. They have been in both games, but have come up short at the end both times. They will be looking to finish their next game as they hope starting conference play will turn things around for them when they host the 2-0 Whiteford Bobcats.

Whiteford has found success playing against the bottom teams from the Lenawee County Athletic Conference. In their first game they played the Blissfield Royals and snuck past with a 26-22 victory. The Royals are winless in their two games.

In their second game, they defeated the Erie-Mason Eagles by a big margin, 26-0. I also want to add that the Eagles are also winless, but they couldn’t figure out this Bobcat defense or get anything going offensively.

Sand Creek’s defense has to be liking that they are going to be facing the Bobcats’ offense. Whiteford likes to run ball, which the Aggies have had success stopping. I don’t see the Bobcats having enough personal to air it out for a lot of success against the Aggies and that is something they can get them back on track. Their defense has been porous this year allowing 45.5 points per game this year. I think this is the first week we will see them tighten up and keep Whiteford in check.

On the other side, the Aggies’ offense has worked well this year. They have averaged 318.5 yards per game and scoring 37.5 points per game. The problem though has been turnovers. I think if they hold on to the ball and don’t give away points, this explosive offense can do damage. Their turnovers also have hurt the defense with big plays that result in points and short fields to deal with. If they keep the turnovers under 3, this team can easily win this game.

One person to look for in this one is Sand Creek’s quarterback Kolton Alcock. He is up in the top for total offense and touchdowns in the county. I think he will be the difference maker for the Aggies and to compliment his shifty running style will be Elliott Rains who is a tougher runner and breaks a lot of tackles.

Last year when these two teams play, Sand Creek blew out the Bobcats 40-6. The Aggies are a different team from last year, but I believe the offense is more explosive, while the defense is inexperienced and young. If Whiteford can find a passing game, they can keep themselves in this one, but if not, they could be in for a long night. If Sand Creek’s defense plays like I think it can, this game is one they should win. The game is in Sand Creek, which should give them an advantage as well. My prediction for this game is the Aggies will win this one with a score of 34-20.

This game will be played on September 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Sand Creek High School in Sand Creek, Michigan.
