Wisconsin High School Football State Champion Predictions Div. 5-7
How early is too early to start predicting Wisconsin high school state football champions for this year? I say it’s never too early, and today I will give you who I think will come away with the gold football for divisions 5-7 in November. Divisions are based off of the enrollment size of the school.
DIVISION 7- Defending state champions Greenwood/Granton Indians would be the safe pick here, but to quote Lee Corso “not so fast my friend.” First year coach Jeff Trunkel has the boys off to a great start at 2-0, but I don’t see them repeating this year. They’ll make some noise in the tournament for sure, but I think they will come up short this year. My pick will be the Potosi Chieftans. Potosi lost a heartbreaker last year in the first round of the playoffs to Hillsboro 34-32. Look for Potosi to avenge that loss and hoist the trophy in Madison this year.
DIVISION 6- I am torn between three teams in this division, the St. Mary Springs Ledgers, Edgar Wildcats and Eau Claire Regis Ramblers. All three teams are very impressive in their own way. Regis handed out a beating to Stratford last Thursday. The Wildcats have been one of the most dominating teams in recent years, winning the state championship in 2009 and ’10 with undefeated records both years. They lost to eventual state champion St. Mary Springs in the semi-finals of the tournament last year. The Ledgers are coming of an undefeated season where they took home the gold football a year ago. My pick for this division: I’m going with the Edgar Wildcats to win the state championship this year.
DIVISION 5- Another strong division once again where it makes it tough to pick a clear cut winner. The Kenosha St. Joseph Lancers have impressed me lately, though I think they might struggle a bit later on in the season. The Lancaster Flying Arrows have not won a state championship since 2006 and head coach John Hoch and company will be looking to get back to the championship game where they lost in overtime last year to another team I like the Colby Hornets. Colby is a team that has a very good shot of repeating this year and have come out of the gates strong once again this year. As much as I like the Hornets, I’m going with Coach Hoch and the Flying Arrows this year.
Those are my predictions for divisions 5-7. Check back later as I predict who will win the state championship for divisions 1-4.
