College Football Recruiting: A Trip Around the Southeast

By Freddie Vickers

We have moved to week two of the college football season, but also in full swing is high school football. The top players across the country are hitting the field hard on Friday nights, then taking visits on Saturday to schools vying for their services.

As we will start doing every week, we’ll take a look at college football recruiting.  Rant Sports will have you covered with all the information where the elite high school players are visiting and we’ll also be there with any breaking commitment information.

Today, we’ll take a trip around the southeast and look at some of the top prospects and where they’ll be this weekend.

Let’s kick it off with the consensus number one player in the country, Robert Nkemdiche.

It seems like every week, Nkemdiche has his name in the news.  This week, ESPN ran a column stating that Nkemdiche’s mother, who resides in Nigeria, is unhappy with Clemson.  Nkemdiche and two of his teammates, David Kamara and Wayne Gallman, have all pledged to play their college football for the Tigers.  Will the Tigers be able to hang on to Nkemdiche? Not if mama has anything to say about it.  Nkemdiche will be in Clemson this weekend as the Tigers take on the Ball State Cardinals.

The number one rated all purpose running back in the state of Georgia, Alvin Kamara, recently told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that Georgia and Alabama are his top two.  Kamara also has Oklahoma State, Florida State, Tennessee and Oregon on his list.  Kamara has said he will take an official visit to Oregon.

6’4″, 310 pound defensive tackle Montravious Adams will be in Clemson on Saturday to watch the Tigers take on Ball State.  It looks to be a two horse race between Clemson and Auburn to acquire Adams’ services.  Adams was present in the Georgia Dome this past Saturday as Clemson edged Auburn on a late touchdown pass by Tajh Boyd.

Five star running back Derrick Henry has set the date of September 27 to announce his college choice.  Henry will decide between Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.  Henry, was at one time, a Bulldog commit, but chose to reopen the recruiting process.  The Crimson Tide are believed to be in the lead for Henry who will visit Rocky Top on September 15.  Will Derek Dooley pull out all the stops to get this elite running back?
