It looks like we have some young Lawrence Taylor‘s on our hands at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD.
After beating Hillside 52-14 on their road game in North Carolina, five players from DeMatha’s nationally ranked high school football team hired prostitutes to the team hotel, according to The Washington Post. Those five players were kicked off the team immediately following the incident.
This all happened after the teams 1:30 a.m. bed check and unusually 4 a.m. hallway check. The players then went on the Internet and hired call girls from an online service. According to a parent, some of the players sexually engaged with the prostitutes in the hotel room.
Apparently that 4 a.m. hallway check wasn’t late enough.
Two players withdrew from the school this week and two others could be expelled. The fifth will attend a disciplinary hearing on Friday. The players names have not been released because all of them are considered minors.
Here’s the kicker in the story – the five players involved were all backups. None of them were in the starting lineup for 7th ranked DeMatha.
The shool has produced some top quality talent in recent years. Brian Westbrook, Keith Bogans, Adrian Dantley, and Danny Ferry are all alumni of the high school.
If you asking yourself where the coaches and chaperones were during all this it’s pretty easy. SLEEPING. A 4 a.m. hallway check is pretty strange and doesn’t even take place at college programs.
But we have to remember these are high school kids after all.
Bros will be bros.
