Big Ten Football Squads Struggling in Week Two Action

The Big Ten has been taking a beating today in more ways then one.

Several teams are struggling to pull away from their opponents, most notably Michigan and Ohio State, who beat Central Florida 31-16 at The Shoe. Penn State couldn’t get the job done at Virginia as they missed four field goals. Wisconsin’s offense hasn’t woken up yet against Oregon State and Iowa is in a fight against rival Iowa State.

Injuries have also been a problem around the Big Ten today. Wisconsin’s Jared Abbrederis was taken to the locker room after a brutal hit in the second quarter. His status is uncertain, but Cliff Kirkpatrick of the Corvallis Gazette-Times is reporting an ambulance left the stadium quickly, possibly with Abbrederis on the way to the hospital. Abbrederis had one catch for 26 yards against Oregon State today and has been the main target for Badgers quarterback Danny O’Brien.

Another key loss came in Indiana’s game against Massachusetts when Tre Roberson was carted off the field in the second quarter. He’s now said to have a broken ankle that will likely end his season. Roberson had two touchdowns on the ground and one through the air in the first half against UMass before getting injured. He’s a huge loss for a team that has struggled to put points on the board.

Both injuries hurt each team significantly with their offenses struggling to score. Wisconsin only managed to put 26 up on Northern Iowa a week ago and Indiana posted only 24 on Indiana State.
