Nebraska Cornhuskers: Rex Burkhead Makes Offense More Dangerous
Rex Burkhead has been an important cog for the Nebraska Cornhuskers offense over the past few years. His experience and ability have been critical in keeping the offense moving forward.
It was great to see Burkhead out there this afternoon, running free for the most part. It would be tough for Husker fans to notice he was not at 100%.
Rex looked to be a little ginger on a few of his runs, especially his career long 61 yard touchdown run.
For the Huskers, with B1G 10 play starting next week, they are going to need Burkhead on the field.
While Ameer Abdullah, Imani Cross, and Braylon Heard have filled in admirably, none of them are as good as Burkhead. Burkhead may not have the speed or athletic ability that either of them have, but he has that “it” factor. He refuses to go down on any run, getting the most out of every time he touches the ball.
With Burkhead in the lineup, the Huskers offense can do so much more. With Abdullah or Cross in the game, teams know the type of play the Huskers will run. With Burkhead in the game, the Huskers can run between the tackles or outside.
Rex Burkhead is also a better pass catcher than the other running backs. He makes tough catches in traffic and usually gets a lot of yards after catch.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are going to have to establish the run when conference play begins, and they will depend on their leader to do so.
