Woody’s Log: So… There’s an ACC Football Game in Tallahassee Tonight

Melina Vastola-US PRESSWIRE

So…

Ole Woody had a crazy dream last night…

A dream that there was a big match up between a pair of Top 10 ranked ACC Football teams in prime-time on national TV…

Oh man, the crazy dreams folks can have…

Wait…

It’s not a DREAM!!!!!!

Yes, all jokes aside, the world of college football is focused on Tallahassee, Florida, as the 4th-ranked Florida State Seminoles host the 9th-ranked Clemson Tigers in the ACC game of the year.

Guess it’s time for Woody to step up to the plate and bring it this week in breaking down the winners and losers in ACC Football action.

Last week was an ugly performance with a 6-4 record that drops the overall season mark to 19-12.

With the nation watching, let’s do this…

Here’s Week 4…

Bowling Green State Falcons at Virginia Tech Hokies (-17.5) – Noon – ESPNU, XM/SIRIUS 191/94 – #BGSUvsVT

The Hokies were more like the croakies last week in a terrible loss on the road to the Pittsburgh Panthers. The loss knocked Virginia Tech out of the national rankings and out of the all important Woody’s High Five. Virginia Tech needs to regain its national swag with a big, lop-sided win in this one. But, it’s not going to happen. This game will be another huge test for the youth of Virginia Tech. The Hokies win, but do not cover, 27-17.

Maryland Terrapins at No. 8 West Virginia Mountaineers (-25.5) – Noon – FX, XM/SIRIUS 85/85 – #MDvsWVU

The ACC doesn’t need another blowout loss to a ranked opponent, but this game just stinks for Maryland.  West Virginia is 2nd in the nation in passing and 4th in points scored. The Terps simply do not have the offensive talent at this point to keep up. The Mountaineers win and cover, 52-20.

Virginia Cavaliers at No. 17 Texas Christian Horned Frogs (-18) – Noon – ESPN, XM/SIRIUS 91/91 – #UVAvsTCU

Another potential disaster game for the ACC against a ranked opponent on the road. The Cavaliers didn’t fair too well on the road in conference last week against a specialized offense. This could be a lot of the same again this week.  TCU did not cover last week against the Kansas Jayhawks. Virginia has a lot more talent and will be ready to play. TCU will win, but not cover, 27-20.

Army Black Knights at Wake Forest Demon Deacons (-7) – 12:30 p.m. – ACC Network, XM/SIRIUS 190/92 – #ARMYvsWAKE

Wake was flat out embarrassed and destroyed last Saturday. Head Coach Jim Grobe will have nothing of this again this week. Army posses a bit of a threat with its spread, almost old school wishbone offense, but the Demon Deacons will be ready. Wake wins and covers, 31-17.

Miami Hurricanes at  Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-14) – 3 p.m. – Regional Fox Sports Network, XM 192/137 – #MIAvsGT

This is two weeks in a row that Yellow Jackets Head Coach Paul Johnson has had circled on his calendar. Miami has handled Georgia Tech for two years in a row. This will not happen again. The Jackets will rush for 400 yards, win and cover, 48-14.

East Carolina Pirates at North Carolina Tar Heels (-14.5) – 3:30 p.m. – ESPNU, XM/SIRIUS 191/94 – #ECUvs#UNC

The Tar Heels were asleep at the wheel for 3 quarters before scoring 21 in the fourth quarter and a chance with under a minute to pull off an unbelievable comeback. The Pirates are use to Carolina Head Coach Larry Fedora‘s offensive and defensive sets, but they are not use to the talent the Heels can put on the field to run his schemes. The mystery and key to this game is sophomore RB Giovanni Bernard. Will he play? Won’t he play? Is he still alive? Either way, North Carolina takes out East Carolina in the cover and the win, 42-17.

Memphis Tigers at Duke Blue Devils (-23.5) – 6 p.m. – ESPN3, XM/SIRIUS 190/132 – #MEMvsDUKE

This will be the celebration of 100 Years of Duke Football… Yes, Duke does have things to pound its chest about besides the four years Steve Spurrier was there. At least everyone thinks so. They did a brilliant job in scheduling Memphis. Tickets are sill available… on Groupon. Thank goodness they sold it out! Duke wins and covers, 44-20.

The Citadel Bulldogs at North Carolina State Wolfpack (NL) – ESPN3, SIRIUS 125 – #CITvsNCSU

Thank goodness there is not a line in this game. Citadel is going to give NC State fits early. Senior QB Mike Glennon will finally have a huge breakout game and the Wolfpack will escape, 35-21. (No one really cares about this game because of what happens in two hours)

No. 9 Clemson Tigers at No. 4 Florida State Seminoles (-14) – 8 p.m. – ABC, XM/SIRIUS 86 – #CLEMvsFSU

Get the popcorn ready, let the kids go crazy and make sure you have that back up bottle of bourbon… this game is going to be one for the ages. It may not have been a dream, but it will be a dream game for college football and ACC fans. The line is set high with Clemson getting 14 points. You have to take that bet any day of the week. This is a scary FSU team, though, that can wreck a line in a matter of minutes. For the greater good of the ACC, Clemson will show up and cover, but will not win. FSU continues on it path to a BCS title game birth with a 28-24 victory.
