So…

Has everyone had time to come down off the high of that Florida State Seminoles win over the Clemson Tigers?

Whether you have or have not, that final as well as a few others in ACC Football action has shaken up the power rankings for Week 5.

It’s interesting to see how things are starting to even out through the first third of the ACC Football schedule.

So with any further a due, here is Woody’s High Five ranking the power five teams this week…

5. North Carolina State Wolfpack (19.93) – Welcome back to the world of college football and the ACC. After a shaky start and a terrible lose to the Tennessee Volunteers, NC State has settled into its own thanks to some sub-par competition.  The Wolfpack has made it’s move into the Top 5 thanks to its defense. Overall, NC State is 3rd in the ACC in total defense and ranks 27th in the nation in points allowed. Not too shabby. Plus, it seems State has found a running game in Shadrach Thornton. Just the thing QB Mike Glennon needs to take some of the pressure off of him and the miserable pass protection of the offensive line. Things may finally be looking up for the Wolfpack. But five-hole is a tough one to defend. Especially when your next game is on the road at the Coastal Division leading Miami Hurricanes.

4. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (15.53) – Can you believe the stable and sturdy Jackets dropped like a rock this week. Well, it was only one spot, but you still have to play it up after it blew a 14-point lead at home and lost in overtime to Miami. Offensively, Tech is still tops in the league in rushing, 2nd in scoring offense and is 3rd in the nation in rushing. Nice, right? But defensively, the Jackets took a big hit dropping to 7th in total defense in the conference and dropped 22 spots from 20th to 42nd in points given up. Tech should improve their average this week as it hosts Middle Tennessee State.

3. North Carolina Tar Heels (15.00) – The steady Heels hold on to their 3rd spot again this week following a dominating effort against the East Carolina Pirates. North Carolina is 4th in the ACC in total offense and 3rd in total defense. The Heels have not looked pretty at times learning the new schemes of Head Coach Larry Fedora, but when RB Giovanni Bernard and QB Bryn Renner are on, along with a solid defense, it can play with anyone in the country.

2. Clemson Tigers (14.60) – Despite the loss to FSU, the Tigers move up a notch actually thanks to a couple of factors. Clemson now boasts the toughest schedule in the ACC and the 5th toughest in the nation after its game with the ‘Noles and the Auburn Tigers near upset of the LSU Tigers. Offensively, the Tigers are in the top 4 in every offensive category. But, the defense is still the bug-a-boo as Clemson ranks 10th in total defense, rushing defense and passing defense. The Tigers have another test on the road against a Boston College Eagles squad who is the top ranked passing attack in the ACC behind the numbers of QB Chase Rettig. Should be an interesting development come Saturday.

1. Florida State Seminoles (4.07) – Was there really any question? The win over Clemson really puts the Seminoles a head, shoulder and both elbows above anyone else in the league statiscially. FSU is tops in the ACC in scoring offense, scoring defense, total offense, total defense, rushing defense, passing defense, passing efficiency and pass defensive efficiency. The ‘Noles are 2nd in rushing offense and 5th in passing offense. Nationally, Florida State is 26th in passing yards, 8th in rushing yards, 2nd in points for and 6th in points against. Oh and that cupcake schedule… whatever… with the Clemson game now behind them, FSU has the 4th toughest schedule in the ACC and 28th strongest in the nation.
