Reflecting on the great brother tandems in sports history several jump right out. Who could forget Billy and Cal Ripken? Dom and Joe DiMaggio or even a more recent Jose and Ozzie Canseco would be an example. OK maybe that tandem wasn’t exactly great but we’ve seen two brothers play at a high level before.
For the Arizona State Sun Devils, baseball isn’t where Todd Graham found the latest set of scintillating sibling. Move over Manning, the Latu brothers are ready to play some pigskin themselves.
Talk about a double whammy, according to 247Sports Viliami Latu and Alani Latu have given their verbal commitment to Tempe. A dynamic duo if you will, both Latu’s have the potential to not only be on the field at the same time but could line up right next to each other. Viliami is a three star rated inside linebacker while Alani is an outside backer also garnering three stars.
On tape there is one would that would aptly describe the way both brothers play, and that would be tenacious. Any quarterback that has to step under center only to look up and see both pairs of Latu eyes starting right back has my sympathy.
Another verbal gained for ASU this past week is offensive lineman Christian Daimler. The Houston product has a large frame to work with standing at 6’6″ and 270 pounds. Daimler has a reputation as a solid run blocker. It shows on film as the gigantic force continually erases his man from the picture with relative ease.
This new band of brothers, along with Daimler pledging a commitment to the Sun Devils, add a physicality that the Pac-12 is not usually credited with. Move over Mario and Luigi.
