Woody's Log Week 7 ACC Football Action

Woody's Log
Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

It is a slow week in ACC Football action as four teams are taking a break to heal and prepare for Week 8.

Despite only four games on the calendar, all are important ACC conference match-ups that will help put the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions in a bit more order.

It’s hard to believe that half of the season is already said and done.

It is even harder to believe when you look at the standings the Maryland Terrapins at 1-0 in the Atlantic and the Miami Hurricanes at 3-0 in the Coastal are the current division leaders.

Seriously, who in their right mind had those two teams leading the league with the likes of the 13th-ranked Florida State Seminoles and the 16th-ranked Clemson Tigers.

Oh yeah… that’s right…

Those two teams are supposed to be ranked in the Top 10 along with the Virginia Tech Hokies

Instead, ACC fans get one team who has to hold an opponent to less than two touchdowns to win and another who has been outscored 119-16 in its two games against Top 25 opponents.

Just a disaster…

An ugly horrid disaster that leaves all the other teams except the ACC Champion on the outside looking in for the BCS Bowl birth…

(sigh)

So ole Woody went 4-3 last week in the picks which puts the season mark at 33-21-1.

There are only four games so the margin of error is non-existent.

Here goes everything as they say with Woody’s Log picks for Week 7 in ACC Football action.

Duke Blue Devils @ Virginia Tech Hokies (-10)

Duke Blue Devils @ Virginia Tech Hokies (-10)

#DUKEvsVT,

They say one should never question Las Vegas but this game just screams the words “sucker” over and over.

The Duke Blue Devils are getting 10 points on the road in Blacksburg, Virginia, against the Virginia Tech Hokies.

This is strictly out of respect for the Hokies and to complete disrespect of the Blue Devils.

Can Duke take that next step as a program?

Can Duke win that sixth game to become Bowl Eligible?

Will Virginia Tech put it all together and finally play the kind of football the ACC was hoping it would play all season?

The Hokies win at home, but do not cover, 38-31.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Miami Hurricanes (+8)

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Miami Hurricanes (+8)

ESPNU – 2:30 p.m.

XM 191 – SIRIUS 123

#UNCvsMIA

The North Carolina Tar Heels are getting zero respect in both the ACC and the nation.

The Miami Hurricanes are getting some hype in the ACC and the nation but have still yet to deliver in a marquee game.

Carolina is one of the best offensive and defensive teams in the ACC.

Miami is either hot or cold.

The key to this game will be how the ball flies around in the air.

Miami is 3rd in the league in passing while the Tar Heels one weakness is passing defense.

Something will give Saturday…

Carolina will win but will not cover in what will go down as an epic ACC Football contest, 44-40.

4 of 5

Maryland Terrapins @ Virginia Cavaliers (-1)

Maryland
Mitch Stringer-US PRESSWIRE

Maryland Terrapins @ Virginia Cavaliers (-1)

Fox Sports Regional Network – 3 p.m.

XM 193 – SIRIUS 136

#MDvsUVA

So the Maryland Terrapins are sitting on top of the Atlantic Division of the ACC and find itself in basically a pick ‘em game on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Virginia has a great offense that has not capitalized on its opportunities against sub-par defenses to this point.

Maryland has the second-best team defense in the ACC.

You are who you are at this point in the season…

The Terps win and cover 21-17.

5 of 5

Boston College Eagles @ Florida State Seminoles (-28.5)

FSU
Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Boston College Eagles @ No. 13 Florida State Seminoles (-28.5)

ESPN2 – 5 p.m.

XM 197 – SIRIUS 128

#BCvsFSU

As an ACC fan you have to really feel for the Boston College Eagles

They have had some tough luck losses and sit at the bottom of the ACC Atlantic Division.

And now the Eagles have to travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to face an angry and embarrassed Florida State Seminole squad.

But the ‘Noles proved last week they are still the football team we have come to know in the ACC over the past 10 years and have not matured into the juggernaut everyone thought they were going to be through the first 5 weeks.

Florida State will win, but it will not cover the 28.5 points, 44-24.
