ACC Football Week 7 Pick Em’

Rob Kinnan-US PRESSWIRE

I will never doubt you again North Carolina State (at least until you play Clemson). The Wolfpack’s win over Florida State last week was the dominant story in the ACC, but if that’s all you paid attention to last week then you missed a bunch of good games.

I went 6-3 in my picks last week (including my bonus pick of Syracuse over Pittsburgh). My record for the year is 46-11 (.807 winning percentage). Wake Forest couldn’t pull their team together after the six suspensions and lost to Maryland. Boston College laid a defensive egg against Army, losing on a late score. The other loss was because I believed (like the rest of the planet) that the Seminoles would beat the Wolfpack.

It’s a light week for the ACC with only four games (four teams are on a bye). So let’s get to the picks!

Duke vs. Virginia Tech

Duke is 5-1 and the Hokies are 3-3 (no, I’m not kidding). These two teams have been the biggest surprise in the ACC this year for completely different reasons. The Blue Devils are overachieving while the Hokies are massively underachieving. If Duke wins this game then they will become bowl eligible for the first time in 17 years, but the Hokies never lose three games in a row. Virginia Tech is at home and is desperate for a win, so I’ll pick the Hokies. Pick: VT over Duke

North Carolina vs. Miami

Both of these teams can score and neither of them can stop anybody; so expect a shootout. UNC is coming off a big win over Virginia Tech, while Miami is coming off a disappointing loss to Notre Dame on national television. This game will probably come down to whoever has the ball last. Miami has the home field so I’ll go with them in a high scoring affair. Pick: Miami over UNC

Maryland vs. Virginia

The Cavaliers switched from Michael Rocco to Phillip Simms as their quarterback last week; it didn’t work. UVa was blown out by Duke and the move by head coach Mike London proved that the quarterback position isn’t a problem. The problem is that Virginia just isn’t a very good team. Lucky for them, neither is Maryland. I doubt that the Terrapins would have won against Wake Forest last week if the Demon Deacons were at full strength. This will be an ugly game, but I think that the Cavaliers will pull it out because they are just a little bit better. Pick: UVa over Maryland

Boston College vs. Florida State

The Seminoles dropped nine spots in the rankings after last week’s debacle and it is safe to assume that they are out for revenge. Boston College is the perfect opponent for FSU this week. The Eagles have been somewhat surprising this year. They have a very good offense but their defense just can’t hold onto a lead. The Eagles will score some in this game, but will be blown out by the Seminoles.              Pick: FSU over BC
