Rant Sports College Football Upset Alert – Week Seven
Every Friday, we bring you the Rant Sports College Football Upset Alert, tipping you off to a few games on the Saturday slate that could shake up the landscape.
Here are this week’s upset alert picks:
David LaRose , Mike Amato, and James Gomez all think the BYU Cougars have a shot at knocking off an Oregon State Beavers team that is reeling after the short-term loss of starting quarterback Sean Mannion. Provo is always a tough place to win for visiting teams, and the Beavers’ offense could struggle in a tough environment. A Cougars upset is in the works.
Freddie Vickers believes, as do I, that the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have a chance to knock off the Texas A&M Aggies late tomorrow night in Shreveport. The Bulldogs’ faithful should be well-lubricated for a 9 pm central kick, and will be as loud as they’ve ever been, in an effort to help their team prove that a No. 23 Associated Press ranking is no fluke.
Paul Bentley sees the Stanford Cardinal surprising the faithful and knocking off the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend tomorrow afternoon. Fresh off a five touchdown performance last weekend, Stanford QB Josh Nunes is looking as good as ever, and RB Stepfan Taylor is keeping the offense balanced. Irish all-everything linebacker Manti Te’o and his defensive squad will have to step their game up to prevent a shocker.
Tyler Brett is taking the Washington Huskies to pull off their second major upset of a young season, by knocking off the USC Trojans in Seattle. Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian knows the Trojans as well as anyone, and knows how to beat them at their own game. Washington certainly won’t be intimidated by Matt Barkley, and the Trojans, and the Huskies and will give them all they can handle in a very hostile environment.
Chris Hengst is taking the Fresno State Bulldogs to pull of a big upset over the Boise State Broncos on Saturday afternoon. Fresno has a top 25 pass defense which should give Boise QB Joe Southwick fits, and the running of Robbie Rouse will help the Bulldogs control clock and pace. Beyond that, Fresno QB Derek Carr– yes, David’s younger brother– is playing like the best signal caller in the Mountain West.
Connor Muldowney likes for the Purdue Boilermakers to bounce back from a tough loss last weekend and knock off the Wisconsin Badgers in an early tilt on Saturday morning in Lafayette. With a win here, Purdue could take the Leaders division of the Big 10 and be sitting pretty for a first-tier bowl berth.
Enjoy the games and always make sure to check back every Friday for the Rant Sports College Football Weekly Upset Alert!
