Woody's Log: ACC Football Winners and Losers for Week 8

Week 8
Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

So it has come to this…

It’s once again time for the 14th-ranked Florida State Seminoles traveling to Coral Gables, Florida to face its old foe in the Miami Hurricanes!

And…

No one seems to care…

ACC Football has got to get its act together man…

This is embarrassing and ridiculous on so many different levels…

Heck, you even have the Virginia Tech Hokies traveling to Death Valley to face the 19th-ranked Clemson Tigers.

(crickets)

Seriously folks…

These are a pair of marquee games on the College Football schedule for this weekend and not one person outside the states of Florida, South Carolina or Virginia are talking about it.

And that is probably debatable as well…

So for those of you who care, thank you…

It means a lot to ACC Football Nation…

There are only six games on the ACC Football Schedule for Saturday, October 20, but each one is an important one in the race for the Atlantic Division and Coastal Division crowns.

There is also a lot of drama surrounding New Defensive Coordinators and a lot of ACC Head Coaches on the Hot Seat in College Football.

What more could a fan ask for…

Right?

As far as Ole Woody’s Log goes, things are not looking so grand…

A pathetic 2-2 mark in Week 7 puts Woody at 35-23-1 on the season.

But the picks are still getting more play than FSU vs Miami right now…

So let’s get to what you all want…

The Winners from Woody’s Log for Week 8.

Who else is ticked off that this is a noon game?

It’s the strong>Virginia Tech Hokies at the freaking Clemson Tigers!!!

So since the nation doesn’t care, they are going to miss one great football game.

Too bad for them and really bad for the ACC.

The Hokies will give the Tigers fits early and will probably lead by 10 points at least once in this ball game.

Clemson will rally, though, behind a huge game from Sammy Watkins (pictured above) as he will score a touchdown on a punt return, rushing and receiving on the day.

The Tigers finish with an impressive second-half, cover and win, 44-27.

The only thing interesting in this game is to see if the Virginia Cavaliers can do what it seems to do best at the midway point of the season and start winning football games.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will not be an easy task, though, as Head Coach Jim Grobe has called his players out and apologized to the fan base for its play.

Wake seems to have better leadership and direction than do the Cavaliers.

The Demon Deacons put together a solid game plan and knock off Virginia on the road, 27-21.

It’s funny how each and every year there is always that one game in the middle of the season where both teams and both head coaches cannot afford to lose but one will come up on the short end of the stick.

That is what the Boston College Eagles and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face on Saturday down in The Flats in Atlanta, Georgia.

Tech Head Coach Paul Johnson believes the ship has been righted and that Interim Defensive Coordinator Charles Kelly will have a simple and effective game plan ready to dominate and slow down the Eagles on offense.

The kicker here is that Boston College has already faced a couple of teams who run similar offenses in what they will see with the Jackets and the Eagles passing game is one of the best in all of college football.

Add to the mix Eagles Head Coach Frank Spaziani is coaching for his life just as Johnson is and you have pure must see drama.

Georgia Tech wins, but there is no way they cover 13 points, 38-30.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack are looking to keep the momentum going and to strengthen the overall view of the conference as it battles the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.

Maryland has proven it has one of the top defenses in the country that no one is really talking about led by fifth-year senior LB Demetrius Hartsfield who just so happened to grow up in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Terps will keep NC State in check offensively, but the Wolfpack will still find a way to win, 24-20.

North Carolina Tar Heels @ Duke Blue Devils (+10)

ESPNU – 7 p.m.

XM 191 – SIRIUS 113

#UNCvsDUKE

The Battle for the Victory Bell jumps into October for the first time since 1943 as the North Carolina Tar Heels travel a few miles to face its arch rival the Duke Blue Devils under the light in prime-time.

This game has a ton of history and dates back to 1888 on Tobacco Road.

Some of the first ever color recordings ever made of a College Football game was actually a Duke and UNC contest.

That footage was shot just a week before the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor.

Duke has had a terrific season and would love to become BCS Bowl Eligible against the hated Heels.

But Carolina has just too much offense and is deeper on both sides of the ball as the Tar Heels win and cover, 38-20.

And the game everyone has been waiting for all day!!!!

(crickets)

Come on…

It’s the 14th-ranked Florida State Seminoles at the Miami Hurricanes!!!!!!!

Yeah…

It just ain’t the same is it…

At least it is the ABC game of the night in prime-time so take that all of you ACC Football haters!

But, this still has every possibility of being a great game in the historic battles of this legendary series.

Is it too much to ask for just one year where we can get a game between FSU and Miami like this one back in the glory days…

(sigh)

Miami will give it everything it has, but the ‘Noles win 40-24.
