Woody's Log - Boyd, Watkins Records Sets the Tone for Week 9 in the ACC

Week 9
Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

This just in…

Taj Boyd just completed another pass and scored a touchdown for the 18th-ranked Clemson Tigers against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Seriously, Clemson came to play on the road…

Boyd also broke the Tiger’s record of most passing yards in a game with 428 on a 27-38 and 5 touchdown performance, while Sammy Watkins set a school record with 202-yards receiving.

Simply impressive…

Not the showcase of a game ESPN wanted for its ACC Football Thursday Night Game of the Week, but the conference and the Tigers will take it no doubt.

There are only four more ACC games this week to try and impress the All-Powerful BCS Rankings as the Miami Hurricanes, Virginia Tech Hokies and the Virginia Cavaliers take a week off to reflect.

ACC fans every are rejoicing the fact they do not have to watch the circus that is the Cavaliers this week…

It’s also been mentioned that this is actually Virginia’s 6th-straight off week…

(wink with air guns firing)

Despite the fact there is no marquee or prime-time games on the Saturday schedule, there are still some very compelling match-ups that will continue to clear up the road to the ACC Championship Game.

So Ole Woody Log is off to a quick 1-0 start thanks to the Tigers and in fact almost even called the final score in the victory over Wake.

The win puts Woody’s season mark at 36-23-1 with four big games to extended the legend of the prognostication prowess.

So let’s take a look at Woody’s Log and see who the winners and losers are for Week 9 Against the Spread.

North Carolina State Wolfpack @ North Carolina Tar Heels (-7.5)

North Carolina State Wolfpack @ North Carolina Tar Heels (-7.5)

ACC Network – 12:30 p.m.

XM 191 – SIRIUS 36

Another big match on Tobacco Road for the second week in a row as the North Carolina State Wolfpack travels into Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to face the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Let’s just call this the Jekyll and Hyde Bowl

Because you don’t know which Wolfpack or Tar Heel team will decide to show up

Carolina either starts like a rocket and blows out a team or takes a nap until the 4th-quarter and then sees how much they can come back to win the game.

NC State just eases along like a relaxing Sunday afternoon drive, realizes it’s running late and then kicks into 5th-gear like its Running Shine.

These are two teams that even with the stats you just can’t predict what you are going to get.

The key to victory, though, will be who does a better job protecting their QB.

State is tops in the ACC in sacks with 22, while UNC is top in sacks allowed with just 5.

Flip the ball and Carolina is 5th in sacks with 15, while State is next to last with 19 allowed.

Something has to give there…

Look for the Tar Heels to keep pressure on NC State QB Mike Glennon and win but not cover, 33-27.

Maryland Terrapins @ Boston College Eagles (-2)

Maryland Terrapins @ Boston College Eagles (-2)

What can you say about this game between the Maryland Terrapins and the Boston College Eagles.

Maryland is starting a WR at QB…

Check that...

He is not OUT as well, leaving a true freshman who did not receive any other scholarship offers on any level of college football beyond Maryland...

Boston College is giving up 508 yards of offense a game…

The Eagles will bring that number down significantly on Saturday.

The Eagles get a much needed win and cover, 27-9.

BYU Cougars @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-2.5)

BYU Cougars @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-2.5)

Fox Sports Regional Network – 3 p.m.

XM 190 – SIRIUS 132

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets couldn’t have asked for a better time to host the BYU Cougars.

BYU is coming off an extremely hard fought and emotional loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and is making another cross country trip in less than five days.

Add to that it is going to be 70-degree, humid and very windy on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.

It snowed today in Provo, Utah

Tech will use the power of Fall in the Deep South

along with the power running game to dominate the Cougars, 40-17.

Duke Blue Devils @ No. 12 Florida State Seminoles (-27.5)

Duke Blue Devils @ Florida State Seminoles (-27.5)

ESPNU – 3:30 p.m.

XM 195 – SIRIUS 137

A mid-season match up the leader in the Atlantic Division and the Coastal Division in the ACC!

Pretty stinking hard to believe isn’t it…

When was the last time the Seminoles were leading the division this late in the season?

Just kidding 'Nole fans...

Well, maybe...

But the standings do not lie as the Coastal Division Leading Duke Blue Devils travel to Tallahassee, Florida, to face the 12th-ranked and Atlantic Division Leading Florida State Seminoles.

It’s just silly to think about to be honest…

And no one in Vegas believes in the Fighting David Cutcliffe’s as they are getting 27.5 points in the game.

Are the ‘Noles a superior team…

Without a doubt…

Is Duke a phony worthy of this slap in the face as the leader in the Coastal Division...

Absolutely NOT!

There is simply no way the Blue Devils can win this game on the road, but they are a very solid team that could keep things interesting for a while.

FSU wins impressively, but does not cover, 48-27.
