It is baffling how the 5th-ranked Irish are getting 13-points as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to battle the 8th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
Does anyone in college football think the Sooners are 13-points better than Notre Dame?
I’m sure the Oklahoma faithful and most of Big 12 Nation does, but come on. The game started at 9-points on Sunday and has moved up each day. There is no doubt Beano Cook is ranting and raving in Heaven right now.
Heck, even Legendary Sooners Head Coach Bud Wilkinson, who was the coach the last time Notre Dame played a game in Norman 49-years ago, is fussing along with Beano about this spread. Something simply just doesn’t make sense.
And it’s even more baffling when you look at the history and the numbers that Vegas bases all of this madness on…
Notre Dame – Inside the Numbers
- Is currently 2nd in the nation in points allowed
- Is 4-3 Against the Spread (ATS) in 2012
- Is 2-0 ATS on the road and is 1-0 ATS in 2012
- Is 0-1 ATS against Oklahoma (1999 at Notre Dame)
- Is 31-24 All-Time ATS as an Underdog
- Is 19-19 All-Time ATS as a Road Dog
- Is 19-17-1 All-Time ATS after a win
- Is 12-12 in the last Two-Years ATS
- Is 21-18 All-Time in October ATS
- Is 72-73 All-Time ATS (1999)
So what is Vegas thinking?
It’s not like the Sooners are blowing away the Spread this season as they are 4-2 overall, 4-2 as a favorite and 3-1 at home.
The hidden stat in all of this is that the Irish are just 2-11 on the road against Top 10 teams since Lou Holtz left in 1999.That stat is driving the spread and Vegas to Oklahoma as 62% of the money on the game has been placed on the Sooners.
Is Vegas trying to just even out the pot of is there something else?
Either way, it is the biggest game Notre Dame has had in almost a decade. On the flip side, it’s just another week in a lifetime of big games for Head Coach Bob Stoops and his Sooners. There is a reason why Vegas continues to build huge casinos, but whatever the reason, the Irish are great and will use this as motivation…
Take Notre Dame to win and cover with the 13-points, 38-33.
