For the South Carolina Gamecocks, Saturday’s emotional win over the Tennessee Volunteers, a winning effort in which leading rusher Marcus Lattimore was lost for the remainder of the season following a severe right knee injury, resulted in a big jump in the latest BSC Standings. Following Saturday’s 38-35 win over Tennessee, South Carolina moved five spots to Number 8 in the BCS Standings, which still feature the Alabama Crimson Tide at the top.
Behind Alabama, the Kansas State Wildcats, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks and LSU Tigers round out the top-five. The Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, aforementioned South Carolina, Florida State Seminoles and Louisville Cardinals round out the top 10.
South Carolina is ranked 12th in this week’s Official Rant Sports College Football Top 25. Quarterback Connor Shaw continues to lead the Gamecocks. In eight games, Shaw has completed 106-of-160 pass attempts for 1,338 yards and 12 touchdowns. The versatile Shaw has also rushed for 447 yards and two touchdowns, second-most behind Lattimore.
South Carolina has outscored its opponents 288-165 and features an offense that has rushed for 2,043 yards in nine games. Thus far, South Carolina has amassed 3,349 yards of total offense. And the Gamecocks, under the tutelage of veteran head coach Steve Spurrier, remain near the top in the highly-competitive Southeastern Conference.
South Carolina, which racked up 510 yards of total offense and fended off a late Tennessee rally to improve to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Southeastern Conference, won’t have to return to the field during the upcoming weekend. The Gamecocks will enjoy a bye this week before hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Nov. 10.
