The UCLA Bruins have been a pleasant surprise in the Pac 12 South this season. First year head coach Jim Mora has gotten his team to play up to their potential, and gotten better-than-expected production out of redshirt freshman quarterback Brett Hundley. The Bruins have one more surprise under their belt, revealing an all-blue alternate uniform they will wear this Saturday for their homecoming game against the Arizona Wildcats.
The look is sharp, using the navy blue that’s normally an accent color in the Bruins’ uniforms liberally. The alternate keeps the classic Bruin-style numbers and the powder blue and gold shoulder stripes.
It’s a darker look than we’re used to seeing from UCLA, but Adidas has done a fantastic job making the look fresh, while still being recognizable as a Bruins uniform. The simple and clean look is a great new uniform for UCLA that will really add to the Homecoming energy this Saturday.
It isn’t as flashy or reflective as the uniform changes that the Oregon Ducks have gone through every week, and it isn’t Batman-inspired like the Utah Utes’ blackout uniforms unveiled early this season, but it is a good looking alternate uniform for Mora and the Bruins.
What do you think of them? Is too much of the “wrong” blue? There is a criminally low number of powder blue uniforms in football these days. Are they boring? Exciting? None of the above? Will it make any difference against the high-flying Arizona offense?
Sound off and let us know what you think of them!
