Mizzou Freshman Arrested For Marijuana, Dismissed

With no other way to say it, marijuana possession and use among Missouri Tigers football players has spiraled out of control.

At 1:12 AM this morning, Mizzou freshman tight end Brandon Holifield was arrested by the Missouri Highway Patrol for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have a valid driver’s license and speeding.

The arrest occurred somewhere within Boone County, the county that Columbia is in.

Holifield has been kicked off the team for violating team policy.  If his name sounds familiar, it should.  Holifield was one of the five players involved just weeks ago in a now famous incident where former 5-star recruit Dorial Green-Beckham was smoking marijuana in a vehicle in the south parking lot of Mizzou’s Memorial Stadium.

Missouri athletics spokesman Chad Moller announced in a text message on Sunday morning that Holifield had been dismissed from the team.  He is a former 3-star recruit from Tallahassee, Florida.

One has to question what the culture of the Missouri program is at this point, and if head coach Gary Pinkel even has a grip on his team.  With so many players getting caught, it must be asked how many others are using and or selling that simply haven’t gotten in trouble yet.

With a losing overall record and only one conference win on the year for the Missouri football team, this news can’t possibly come at a worse time.  Many in Columbia are beginning to question if Pinkel’s personal life which has been impacted by divorce as well as rumors of an affair, could be affecting his ability to coach.  The Tigers have three more games remaining on the season, and must win two of them to become bowl eligible.
