The top recruit in the 2013 class, defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, has decommitted from the Clemson Tigers according to his high school football coach. Reports about his decision began surfacing last night but it was not confirmed until this morning.

It was really only a matter of time before Nkemdiche, rated as the best prospect in the 2013 class, backed out of his commitment with the Tigers. Rumors had been surfacing for weeks about how his mother was unhappy with his decision to go to Clemson and it seems that may be the biggest reason why he is rethinking his college choice.

Now that Nkemdiche has decommitted, speculation has already begun that he will eventually pledge a verbal to Ole Miss. All along it seemed that Ole Miss was the favorite to land the 6-foot-5, 265 pound DE seeing that his older brother Denzel is a linebacker for the Rebels. Certainly other teams like Alabama and Georgia are still in the running but it looks as if Ole Miss has the upper hand at this point.

Ole Miss recruiting coaches are expected to attend Nkemdiche’s game Friday night and the top recruit is also planning on taking an unofficial visit with his family to the Rebels’ game this Saturday. With his visit to Oxford planned for Saturday it will mark the fourth time that he has visted Ole Miss since he originally committed to Clemson.

Nkemdiche pledged a verbal to Dabo Swinney and Clemson back in June, much to the chagrin of his mother. The top recruit took a visit to the school along with teammates Wayne Gallman and David Kamara, both of which already were committed to the Tigers. It was a huge win for the Tigers’ 2013 recruiting class and it propelled their class ranking into the top ten in the country. Now that Nkemdiche has changed his mind it should drop Clemson’s 2013 class outside of the top ten, maybe even the top 15.
