Auburn Football: Gene Chizik Fired as Early as Sunday

Jeff Reed-US PRESSWIRE

The Gene Chizik era with the Auburn Tigers might officially be over as early as Sunday morning.

And it seems they already have the man they want to replace him…

Maybe…

It was verified Athletic Director Jay Jacobs and University President, Dr. Jay Gogue, met with the Board of Trustees on Thursday to finalize the official removal of Chizik as early as this weekend.

Even though the pending firing of Chizik is the worst kept secret in all of college football, this is an interesting move by Dr. Gogue to move forward this quickly and just a day prior to the Tigers big rival game with the 5th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.

It also doesn’t make sense from a buyout standpoint for it to happen now…

If Chizik is removed before, December 2, he will be awarded an extra $3 million in his buyout clause with a total buyout of $7.5 million.

But the most interesting aspect of this story is the love affair Dr. Gogue has with the Louisville Cardinals as he hinted he is very impressed by Cardinals Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson.

(who?)

Other sources say Auburn is ready to offer the job to Cardinal Assistant Head Coach Jeff Brohm.

(yeah… the back up NFL QB who played with like 20 teams in 5 seasons)

So…

As bad as the Tigers have been, this is the best Jacobs and Gogue can bring to the table…

Don’t you think these two should be looking at someone with the experience of Charlie Strong instead of a pair of coordinators with zero to no success?

Think about it…

Watson has a career head coaching record of 11-22…

Brohm hasn’t proven one thing to anyone as a head coach…

And these are the guys the Auburn administration thinks is ready to take over as a head coach, especially in the SEC

Plus, Brohm is a graduate of Louisville where he played and excelled at quarterback and is the heir-apparent to Strong who is rumored for just about every open job in the nation except Auburn.

This story just keeps getting crazier…

Let’s just call the whole thing off and hand the job to this guy…

But, If these pieces that are reported do fall into place, one has to wonder what the heck is going on at Auburn.

On paper, its short list of coaches look more like Chizik 2.0 rather than Tommy Tubberville 3.0.

And, unfortunately, the only thing that can fix the Tigers is Pat Dye 10.0.
