Mountain West Conference: Week Eleven Predictions
Time to get ready for another Mountain West weekend of college football. My predictions for week ten were a respectable 3-2. The biggest surprise was the effort by the Air Force Falcons against the Army Black Knights. I predicted a lopsided score correctly, the winner… not so much.
Shockwaves in the race for the conference championship were delivered by the San Diego State Aztecs who downed the Boise State Broncos in Idaho. I failed to predict an Aztecs victory on the blue turf.
Here are my predictions for week eleven. As always enjoy the games!
All times Mountian
Air Force Falcons (5-4) (4-1) at San Diego State Aztecs (7-3) (5-1) 1:30pm
Ironically, the 5-4 Falcons control their destiny in the Mountain West. If last week was any indication, a conference title is going to be a long shot. Quarterback Connor Dietz is expected to start the game but is banged up.
SDSU has all the momentum they could ever want riding a five game win streak including last week’s upset of the Broncos. Between Adam Muema and Walter Kazee, quarterback Adam Dingwell has plenty of help in the run game to take the pressure off.
Prediction: Air Force 28 San Diego State 38
Wyoming Cowboys (2-7) (1-4) at New Mexico Lobos (4-6) (1-4) 1:30pm
Before the season began this would have been an assumed Cowboys win. Now that New Mexico has clearly turned a corner under Bob Davie, the Lobos could get one step closer to bowl eligibility.
Brett Smith is back to his pre-injury form and coming off a great outing against CSU. As long as the Cowboys run defense can bend but not break, I like the Pokes chances. Kasey Carrier is an excellent running back who will have some big plays in the game. It won’t be enough.
Prediction: Wyoming 35 New Mexico 28
UNLV Rebels (2-8) (2-3) at Colorado State Rams (2-7) (1-4) 5pm
CSU has been incredibly disappointing. Although UNLV has their predicable ugly record, they are playing much better football. Coming off a confidence building win over New Mexico, I’ll give the edge to the Rebels with Nick Sherry at quarterback and a solid running game.
Prediction: UNLV 31 Colorado State 24
Boise State Broncos (7-2) (4-1) at Hawaii Warriors (1-7) (0-5) 5pm
Even though Boise State is feeling blue (no pun intended) after their loss at home to the Aztecs, a trip to the islands is what the doctor ordered. Hawaii has struggled everywhere possible this season. This should be a lopsided win for BSU who still has a decent shot at a Mountain West championship.
Prediction: Boise State 45 Hawaii 10
Fresno State Bulldogs (7-3) (5-1) at Nevada Wolf Pack (6-3) (3-2) 8:35pm
If the Bulldogs win out, they will finish atop the Mountain West standings. A visit to Reno isn’t going to prove easy as the Wolf Pack boast one of the most potent offenses in college football. Playing consistent defense is another story for Nevada, something that Derek Carr and company should take full advantage of.
Prediction: Fresno State 42 Nevada 30
