Johnny Manziel Leaps To The Front Of The Heisman Race After Impressive Win Over Alabama

Before Saturday, there were still some people that doubted the skills of Johnny Manziel. After Texas A&M walked into Tuscaloosa and dominated Alabama, all the questions should be removed. The super impressive freshman should vault to the front of the Heisman Trophy line.

With all due respect to Collin Klein, he simply does not have that “Heisman moment” that Manziel just submitted.  Even with all the hype, Johnny Football still impressed the nation.  He simply does not play like a freshman.  He showed incredible poise in the face of a very tough defense.  This might not be the ‘Bama defense of old, but it is still plenty dangerous.  Manziel simply tore them apart.

After A&M raced out to a 20-0 lead, it looked like Alabama was going to reel them back in all game.  At every juncture, Manziel had an answer.  Nursing a 23-17 lead, Manziel threw two perfect passes to push the lead back up to 12.  He did have some help from his defense at the end, but Manziel certainly tried to seal it.

There are some other worthy candidates, but Manziel has the story and he has the moment.  Other contenders have suffered some down games in recent weeks while Manziel has been coming on strong.  The fact that A&M has two losses will not hurt him either.  Look at Robert Griffin III.  His team wasn’t overwhelming great, but he had the story and the numbers to back it up.

After this huge win, I have Manziel in the driver’s seat for the trophy.  However, there are still plenty of games to play.

Your move, Klein.
