No 10. Kansas Jayhawks

KU
Michael Johnson: US Presswire

Last week: No. 10

Once again, the Kansas Jayhawks suffered another narrow defeat, this time in an overtime loss to the top-25 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. Though this team is better than their winless conference record suggests, they still have a long way to go before they can begin to compete in the Big 12 conference. Charlie Weiss has a lot of work to do.

The Baylor Bears put up a decent fight Saturday, playing the Oklahoma Sooners within 8 points, but once again, their good offense wasn't enough to overcome their poor defense.

The Bears have just one conference win this year, over the winless KU Jayhawks, and with 3 ranked teams remaining on the schedule (WVU, Tech, and OSU), that may be all they get this year. It appears that Art Briles will have his hands full when his team heads into the off-season trying to turn things back around.

No. 8 Iowa State Cyclones

Brett Davis: US Presswire

Last week: No. 8

Despite their conference record and a 33-7 loss to the Longhorns last Saturday, this Iowa State team is a solid team. They have great defensive talent and Paul Rhoads is a good coach. He has built them into a team that is no longer a doormat; if teams don't give them respect, the Cyclones will make them pay. Like the Horned Frogs, the Cyclones seem to be heading in the right direction for next season.

No. 7 West Virginia Mountaineers

Last week: No. 7

What in the world has happened to the West Virginia Mountaineers? Since their narrow victory over the Longhorns, the Mountaineers have lost four straight games.

Though their season will be a failure now no matter what, especially considering that they were once ranked in the top 5, they have a chance to at least get back on solid footing as the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners head to Morgantown this weekend. Otherwise, they could be looking at a five game losing streak.

No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs

TCU
Matthew Emmons: US Presswire

Last week: No. 6

The TCU Horned Frogs put up a good fight early, but ultimately fell to the top team in the nation last Saturday.

Despite their record, one has to be impressed with the way this team has played under freshman QB Trevone Boykin who took over the starting QB duties after the Horned Frogs lost Casey Pachall. The future looks bright for this young team that appears to have a lot of fight in them.

They will have the weekend off before traveling down to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns on Thanksgiving night.

No. 5 Texas Tech Red Raiders

TT
Michael Johnson: US Presswire

Last week: No. 5

It appeared over the weekend that the Texas Tech Red Raiders would fall prey to the winless Jayhawks, but in the end, the Red Raiders figured out a way to escape with a narrow overtime victory at home.

Next week, they will have a chance to jump up a spot as they take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater in a match-up of two top-25 teams.

No. 4 Oklahoma State Cowboys

OSU
Richard Rowe: US Presswire

Last week: No. 4

The Oklahoma State Cowboys put a beat-down on the ailing Mountaineers over the weekend, once again showing off their high-powered offense. The Cowboys are a good, solid football team and still have a chance to upset their in-state rivals, the Oklahoma Sooners later this month. This weekend, they host the No. 23 Texas Tech Red Raiders.

No. 3 Texas Longhorns

UT
Brett Davis: US Presswire

Last week: No. 3

The Texas Longhorns played their best game of the season on Saturday as they paid tribute to the late Darrell K Royal. In fact, the Longhorns have won 4 in a row since their debacle in Dallas vs. the Sooners, and they continue to make improvements each week.

The Longhorns could still grab an at-large BCS bid, but it would take a win over the Wildcats in Manhattan and likely an OU loss as well.

No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners

OU
Denny Medley: US Presswire

Last week: No. 2

With just three conference games left, time is running out for the Oklahoma Sooners to steal the top spot in the conference, especially since their only conference loss was at the hands of the KSU Wildcats, who have yet to lose a game all season.

Nevertheless, the Sooners continue to play solid football, and could find themselves with an at-large BCS bid. First, however, they must travel to Morgantown to take on the desperate Mountaineers, host the OSU Cowboys, and travel to TCU--not an easy schedule.

No. 1 Kansas State Wildcats

KSU
Jim Cowsert: US Presswire

Last week: No. 1

After Alabama fell last weekend, the Kansas State Wildcats grabbed the No. 1 spot in the college football rankings after their defeat of the TCU Horned Frogs.

The Wildcats are arguably the best team in the nation right now, and Collin Klein is likely the Heisman favorite.

With just two games remaining, the Wildcats control their own destiny. There are only two things keeping them from a spot in the BCS title game: the Baylor Bears and the Texas Longhorns.
