Big 12 Weekend Preview: Week 12
It’s week 12 of the college football season, which means it’s time for my Big 12 predictions for the weekend.
This week hosts a number of exciting Big XII games.
The No. 22 Texas Tech Red Raiders travel to Stillwater to take on the No 24 Oklahoma State Cowboys, the No. 1 Kansas State Wildcats travel to Waco to defend their new No. 1 ranking against the Baylor Bears, and the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners travel to Morgantown to avoid stumbling against a West Virginia Mountaineers team due for a win.
No. 22 Texas Tech at No 24 Oklahoma State
In the only Big XII game featuring two top 25 teams, the Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-3, 4-2 Big XII) look to continue their momentum after beating the WVU Mountaineers last week.
Oklahoma State enters the game with the fourth best offense in yards per game, and the third best offense in points per game.
Texas Tech (7-3, 4-3 Big XII) enters with the 10th best offense in yards per game, and the 18th best offense in points per game.
Tech is coming off of an OT loss against a team that has not won a conference game yet, the Kansas Jayhawks.
I think Oklahoma State gets the close win in a shootout, 42-35.
No. 12 Oklahoma at WVU
I will write a detailed preview of this game within the next few days for any who are interested.
That being said, long story short, I do not think this one will be close at all.
The Mountaineers have lost four straight games for the first time since 2001. They just had two receivers leave the team, and there are rumors that other players are not happy on the team as well. The team is shaken to its core, its offense looks average at best, its defense looks bad at best, and the special teams have cost WVU several games as of late.
WVU will be on Thanksgiving Break during this game, and after four straight losses, fan support is relatively low, so there’s that too.
I just don’t see any possibility for WVU to win this game. Oklahoma is too fast, too strong, and wants it more than the Mountaineers do.
Oklahoma wins big in front of a small WVU crowd 49-14.
Iowa State Cyclones at Kansas
Kansas (1-9, 0-7 Big XII) has the chance to ruin this season for Iowa State (5-5, 2-5 Big XII). Iowa State has not been bowl eligible for consecutive seasons since 2004. Winning this game would give Iowa State its coveted sixth win on the season.
Kansas has not won a Big XII game this season. It has won just one game on the season, but has come close to upsetting several teams. Kansas barely lost to Texas a few weeks ago and took Texas Tech into overtime last week.
I think it’s about time for Kansas to win a conference game.
I have Kansas with the upset 24-21.
No. 1 Kansas State at Baylor
Kansas State (10-0, 7-0 Big XII) is now the number one team in the BCS rankings. Headed to its first National Championship in school history, the Wildcats have looked strong on all sides of the ball this season. No one has really been able to slow them down, and they remain the only undefeated Big XII team.
Baylor (4-5, 1-5 Big XII) has looked weak as of late, its only conference win coming against Kansas.
A lot of folks think the Wildcats will fall this weekend, but not me.
Wildcats win big 42-10.
