When you think Washington Huskies football plenty of names come to mind, one of those is probably not the star of the hit NBC series Community and host of E!’s The SoupJoel McHale.

Turns out there’s more to Joel McHale than meets the eye. For a brief time in the early 90’s, McHale was in fact a part of the Washington Huskies’ squad, albeit short-lived.

In fact, McHale has a Rose Bowl ring from Washington’s 1992 victory over theMichigan Wolverines, 34-14.

In the below video from McHale’s appearance on the Conan O’Brien show, he mentions how he’ll occasionally “flash” the ring to get out of speeding tickets– tongue in cheek, mind you:

McHale cut his time short with the Huskies to pursue his acting career, and most likely made the right decision in doing so. In my opinion, he’s one of the funnier guys on television these days.

It doesn’t surprise me much that he has an athletic background, but I had no idea he was on a Division I roster, even if it was only for a few months.

He had my respect before as someone who is great at their craft– now he has just a little more.
